Ben Carson speaks about the pitfalls of the American welfare system. He says that the black family was resilient and strong surviving slavery, navigating Jim Crow, and only started to disintegrate when the government got involved and gave blacks welfare. Well, I’m not sure what America Ben is speaking of but welfare was never made for blacks in 1939, the food stamp program was initially to grow a food surplus for the poor during the Great Depression.
